Starting January 1, 2011, do it yourselfers will no longer be able to dispose of used oil filters and oil absorbant materials in their regular garbage. More than a year ago, Governor Doyle signed into law legislation banning the filters and other oily materials from entering the landfills in the state. Wisconsin hasĀ  been recycling oil for years, but now the extra step of recycling or properly disposing the oil filters means that people that do home oil changes in their cars will have to be extra careful in disposing of the filters.

The Wisconsin DNR site has more information on the new law and what residents will now need to do with filters and other oily soaked materials.
