This summer’s heavy, wet weather has been a boon to the the mosquito population. The ‘state bird’ can be found everywhere in great numbers. But swarms of dragonflies are now on the offensive to keep the mosquito population in check. From the Sheboygan Press:
“Dragonflies are great, that’s what’s eating the mosquitoes,” said Rebecca Clarke, naturalist at the Ellwood H. May Environmental Park in Sheboygan. “That’s why there’s been a real explosion of (the dragonflies). The mosquitoes are definitely winning.”
Clarke said dragonflies have been aplenty in the Maywood area, and sightings have been elsewhere, including lakefront areas.
