The 40th anniversary of the the arrival of the WWII submarine the Cobia was celebrated at the Manitowoc Maritime Museum on Saturday. The event also raised money for the submarine’s much anticipated dry-docking next year for maintenance and repair. The highlight of the fundraiser was a giant submarine sandwich donated by Subway and laid out alongside the sub.

From the Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter:

Stolp said he wanted to help raise money for the submarine’s $350,000 dry-docking because he considers the Wisconsin Maritime Museum a “center point” of downtown Manitowoc.

“There’s a natural tie-in between a submarine sandwich and a submarine,” Stolp said. “Being in business in the downtown area, I do understand the tourist attraction and what it means for the local economy.”
