I am a boat nerd. I am not afraid to admit it. For many years my Dad would take me down to see the big boats of the Great Lakes when I lived in Milwaukee. There is something majestic about the boats on the inland seas. They are truly the stuff of legends.
While in Superior recently we took a little sidetrack to Connor’s Point. This side road provides a great view of the yards and some nice photo opportunities of these steel goliaths. The dead end road affords a nice angle for a photo of the Blatnick Bridge that connects Superior and Duluth.
Tracking the boats is easy to do with the website boatnerd.com. They have maps that show current positions of many of the boats across all the Great Lakes. It is a treasure trove of information, complete with photos to help with identification.
