Boo-Boo-de-Boop. It’s the Betty Boop Festival

Wisconsin Rapids, a community long hit hard by the decline of the paper industry is looking for any way to turn its fortunes around. Fortunately, it has seem to struck gold in the form of a black and white lady with big eyes. The creator of Betty Boop, animator Grim Natwick, was born in the small Central Wisconsin community and the upcoming Betty Boop festival celebrates everything boo-boo-de-boop and contributions Natwick made to popular culture. Plus who would be to party with than a flapper from the 1920’s.

The Betty Boop Festival runs August 5-8 at the Central Wisconsin Cultural Central and various locations in downtown Wisconsin Rapids. Details at

  • Just to confirm that this year’s Betty Boop Festival will be on 28th-31 July 2011 at the same locations as last year. We are getting Ginny Mahoney (Max Fleischer’s granddaughter), Stephen Worth (animation historian) and other guests TBC. We hope to have more merchandise and more events for children this year too!
